Lessons

Apparently I have a lot left to learn...

Lessons linger within the shadows
Of my day
Ripe with anticipation
Popping out at the most
Inopportune moment

"BOO!" they scream
As their laughter echo's inside
The walls of my brain

Vanquishing their evil grins
I change tactics once again
While sporting a smile
To navigate through the complications
Of my crazy, beautiful life

Apparently I have a lot left to learn...

    1. We all do... I just wish we could get some kind of warning. Ya know, like we do when we get a text or something. It'll say "Hey girl, you're about to learn a hard lesson so listen up" haha

  5. I think the day we all don't still have a lot left to learn, is the day we die. There is always something to learn, no matter how trivial or how small it is. So, I agree, you, I and the person who said that still also has a lot left to learn too :)
    Lovely poem.

  7. Dana, so glad to see you at Poetry Jam. Hope we will see you each week. I haven't written my poem yet, but will hopefully get to it today or tomorrow. I do think that many lessons linger in the shadows and then appear in the light at the right time! We ALL have a lot to learn!

  10. Here's a truth to ponder: we all have lots to learn. I'm still at it. Enjoyed your poem so much and couldn't help nodding in agreement. Your work is nicely presented here, too --- that dramatic photo really sets it off.

  14. The ghost metaphor is really nice. It emphasizes your emotions about life's many lessons--especially the ones that are unexcepted.

  15. Great take on the prompt! If only those lessons hiding in the shadows weren't quite so painful...

To have great poets... there must be great audiences

Thank you for being that audience!
