Broken Things

Painting by Fay Collins

A voice
Echoing grit and pain
Adrift through barren trees
No one
To capture the pleas
Of broken things
Busted dreams
Colors fading
Pained by truth
Wind bursts
Beckoning
To be felt and seen
We are
Reaching... Reaching out
Breathing out
With a fractured
Scream

  3. Dana,
This is such a visceral exclamation of thwarted desire and pain. The phrase "fractured scream," easily heard reverberating in the bleak landscape.

  6. This painting has prompted such very different poems, and such intensity of writing. This is a real poem of the anthropocene, of ecological despair.

  7. I really like the ending... I can see both hope and the darkness you describe in that painting.

  8. The winter does enter us that way sometimes. But the trees will know spring again, and so will we.

To have great poets... there must be great audiences

Thank you for being that audience!
